Kayaking @ Camp Spofford

Today Isaiah went kayaking for the first time on Lake Spofford in Spofford, NH. According to the Dept. of Fish & Game, Lake Spofford is the cleanest lake in all of NH. At 6 feet deep I could see right through to the bottom. It was a beautiful day to be on the lake and no one capsized!

Apple App Store vs. Android Market

When I first got my iPhone 3G I was amazed at all of the useless apps that I could download from the Apple App Store. 20,000+ at the time. Now they advertise over 200,000. I quickly found though, that if you didn’t sync your iPhone through iTunes you would lose any purchased apps once you restored your phone. Also, on the iPhone you can only install one application at a time. Pretty lame.

After activating my Samsung Captivate the first thing I did was browse the Android Market for the same apps that I had been using on my iPhone. Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, Meebo, WordPress, Weather Channel… they were all there! As I tapped to install each app it ran in the background and before I knew it I had installed all of my apps at the same time without ever leaving the Android Market. I was amazed! And I don’t have to sync my phone with anything to save my apps. The Android Market keeps track of it all for me!

Goodbye, iPhone & Hello, Captivate!

One week ago I gave up my iPhone 3G and upgraded to the Samsung Captivate (part of the Galaxy S series of phones). I have never been a big fan of Apple but the iPhone 3G did serve me well for the last year and half. It was a major upgrade from my previous phone, the AT&T Tilt, by HTC (running Windows Mobile 6.1). However, there were no tears shed when we departed ways. The next few blog entries will cover some of the differences between the two phones.

Myrtle Beach Highlights

Some highlights from our Myrtle Beach vacation…

1. Sammy playing “pirate golf” (mini-golf with a pirate theme). Every time we passed a mini golf place after that he would say “me try that pirate golf huh?”

2. Isaiah jumping on the Euro Bungy at Barefoot Landing. Pretty cool watching him bounce 15-20 feet in the air.

3. The vast assortment of moon bounces at Broadway on the Beach that the kids played on for hours. Plus the sprinkler area was pretty fun.

4. Hanging out with the Rosicas and becoming mayor of their hotel. Even though Bryan was a little touchy it was fun letting the kids stay up with their kids till almost midnight.

5. Watching fireworks every night of the week from our balcony or right on the beach.

6. Watching Jen teach Isaiah how to use his boogie board in the ocean.

7. Sammy doing k-k balls (cannonballs) in the pool was highly entertaining.

8. Enjoying a late night stoagie on the balcony with Jen.

9. Phinneas and Ferb.

10. Fat Man’s Dream. Dogs & Cream… And other ice cream escapades.

11. Seafood Buffet with a live teen mermaid (who wore glasses).

12. Paying $6 to park at The Gay Dolphin and Bryan trying to get his picture with me by the sign.

13. Rollin in the 94 Corolla during Mustang Week.

14. Midday naps and sleeping in till 10 almost every day.

15. The DJ at the pool playing the same mix 2 days in a row. But it was country and he did play Isaiah’s requests.

Myrtle Beach

After sitting in all sorts of traffic on I-95 we arrived in Myrtle Beach around 5:30pm yesterday. This is the first time ever that we have taken a full week of vacation as a family. Thanks to my Grandparents for the timeshare at the Sandcastle Resort South! This place is amazing… indoor pool, outdoor pool, lazy river, hot tubs, kiddie pool, beach, oceanview – you name it! As we were putting the kids to bed last night they started doing fireworks right on the beach, so of course the kids stayed up late and we watched from the balcony. This is going to be an awesome vacation!
